email server

I am sure that this has been asked and answered many times but I did not find any thing in a search.

What is the most exchange like mail server program for Linux? This is what I want to do.

1. Use Outlook
2. Keep the mail on the server (no more .pst files)
3. Have a global calendar
4. Have a global address book

I know SuSE makes open exchange but I would like some thing that I don’t have to pay for.

You can use an IMAP server to do the mail side of things. I would suggest courier-imap. You will need an smtp server, personally I would use qmail.

The address book would be best handled by ldap (this can also be your authentication system for courier and qmail - hence he suggestions above). Take a look at openldap.

Calendars are a bit more difficult however there is software like WebCalendar that is primarly webbased but can import/export ".ics" files that are used by outlook. Maorong Zou's WebCalendar also supports group calendars and calendar sharing.

I'd truck over to Mozilla and give Thunderbird a shot. It's a breeze, it'll run on any Winboxes if you need some, and it has a spam filter to boot. If you can untar a program, Thunderbird won't be any problem. Let us know how it went.

I found this today and was looking for an exchange like program. Does any one have any experience with this?
