Easy to use OCR for Linux?

I have Linux Mint 17.3.

I am looking for an optical character recognition program to use. So far I have not found one:

OCRFeeder - the characters in the output text are about 75% wrong.

XSane - gives me an error message saying 'no such folder exists'.

The two below are command line:

Cuneiform - when I move to the appropriate directory and type in "cuneiform myscan.jpg" it says that "Majick" is unable to open the file.

Tesseract - when I move to the appropriate directory and type in "tesseract myscan.jpg" I just get many lines of "help" which is too complicated to understand.

Thanks.

Edit: since writing the above I have found that the online service https://www.onlineocr.net/ works perfectly. So problem solved.

If you read my posting above, you can see I've already got Tesseract installed.

The Google search link provided by knudfl does however pull out a webpage that does give useful suggestions for programs and also gives some essential details about Tesseract - it only works with tiff files.

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1626...t-ocr-solution

"To run tesseract goto terminal and type the following

tesseract imagefile.tif outputfile.txt

Tesseract can only read a TIFF file - if you've got a JPEG or PDF or whatever, you'll have to convert it. Also, the filename extension must be .tif, not .tiff, otherwise tesseract errors out."

I have already solved my OCR problem but other might find this useful. There appear to be many other OCR programs apart from Tesseract - no idea which one is best.

I think I used ocrodjvu when I last did OCR. It seems to be a wrapper for all the main ones like Cuneiform, Gocr, Ocrad, OCRopus, and Tesseract.
