DVD Backup

I have installed DVD Shrink with wine in my Kubuntu installation and its working pretty well. I have been using it in windows for some time now and i am pretty happy with it. I was wondering if there is something equivalent to any dvd and dvd idle pro (dvd region free) in linux. I use these 2 utilities in windows to bypass dvd protection and region codes. Many people have suggested DVD:rip in similar threads but i think that only covers DVD Shrink. What about dvd protections (i.e. bad sectors) and region locked cdrom drives?
Thanks in advance!

Google for libdvddecss - it allows playback of region-encoded DVDs and overrides region encoding of DVD drives
