Download vidski's awesome tuxracer level today! (screenshots)

This is an awesome tuxracer (actually project penguin racer) level I made. Its designed to be a very large, long, and fast level with lots of airtime. You will rarely go slower than 100km/h unless you really suck and will also be in the air roughly 30% of the time. Since this is a large and fast level it has some system requirements. If your linux system dosent have 3D video acceleration than forget about this.

my system is:

AMD 754 2.0ghz CPU overclocked to 2.33ghz (10X-233FSB)
1GB ram DDR 400
nvidia 256MB 3D vid card
nforce3 chipset
thats really all that matters

Debian sarge custom compiled kernel 2.6.15.x (currently)
nvidia linux drivers instaled/openGL enabled system

My guess on minimum requirements would be like a 1ghz cpu with 256 ram and a 128, maybe 64MB vid card. But u diffinately need 3D vid drivers. As alaways, the faster the hardware, the faster the game.

How to get this level working on your system:::::::::::

This procedure is focused on a debian system. If you have fedora or one of them other RPM distros it may be slightly different but this will still give you the basic idea.

This level has turbo speed pads and several different colors of ice. It uses the newer tux course theme pack that should come with the new version of tuxracer called project penguin racer. If you are using the older tuxracer version of the game the level may or may not work and if it does you wont have the new features like the turbo pads and such. Just get the newest game version.

ALSO!!! for this level to be any bit enjoyable you need to cofigure your game installation to make the view distance further since you go so damn fast and need to see way ahead to know what moves to make.

This can be done with any text editor and you need to edit the options file which for me is:

/home/username/.ppracer/options

Scroll down a bunch untill you find
"set forward_clip_distance"

the default is 75 which is crap. even for the levels it comes with. mine is set to 2300 so:

set forward_clip_distance 2300.

I also turn fog off for better distance clarity:

"set disable_fog true"

Once that is done you just need to download the level, unpack it, and drop the folder into the contrib directory of your ppracer games installation.

download the level "talos_empire" tar.gz from this link:

http://w05.easy-sharing.com/368574/c..._empire.tar.gz

theres a little brown download link its kinda hard to see with all the big ads everywhere.

Unpack it and you will get a folder called talos_empire and copy/move it to the contrib directory:

/usr/share/games/ppracer/courses/contrib$ ls
talos_empire

As I said before this location may be different for you depending on the linux distro you use but you are smart so find it.

After you place the folder, fire up the game, go to practice, and play it! maybe twice!!!

You may notice that right after you select the level your system appears to freeze while its loading the level. and i think the mouse locks and such, but its not frozen... give it a minute its a big level its gotta load. But then, Enjoy!

ohhhh, and pressing up/forward while on the turbo pads will make you go even faster. Also, use up/forward and right or left together while in the air to direct and correct yourself to make a certain landing you want. If you get stuck, press "R" to reset and it will place you back in the middle.

IF YOU LIKE THIS LEVEL PLEASE:

reply back and drop a line on the thread...

email me at thevid@gmail.com or gAIM message me at "vidfromdiaspora"

If i get a convincing number of ppl who enjoy the level I will put time into making more levels of the same type (huge, long, fast, jumps, crazy air)

The bulk of this level took me about 2 days to make. Plus some random tweaking after that as I played it. I may update it soon with some more extra stuff so stick around.

So thats pretty much it I hope I didnt miss any steps, which is possible since i started drinking at 3.

Enjoy, lemme know, and check out these screenshots...
