Question Does anyone have a simple Samba Config file for a peer to peer network?

I am looking for a slim down version of the samba config file that I can just download somewhere.

I have a very small network and my needs are few. At the moment I can see my other machine in the network browser but the shares are not matching up. Basically I can see the CD ROM drive but not the hard drive shares.

Can you please post a few links to some examples on how to set up a very simple network with the samba config file?

Are you sharing with windows machines? NFS is much easier to set up than Samba if you only want to share between linux machines.

If you have a windows machine sharing, and only want to use samba to connect to it there's very little configuration required.

From a console -

To see what shares are available: smbclient -L <hostname>
To mount a share on /mnt: mount -t smbfs //<hostname>/<sharename>/ /mnt

replace <hostname> with the name of the windows server
replace <sharename> with the name of the share to mount

After this you should just be able to change to the /mnt directory and browse away.
