Disable GTK file chooser autocomplete
I have this problem with the Gtk file chooser. I never had it a few years ago, and I only have it with some applications right now. I *suspect* it's because of statically compiled libraries, and it's a newest-version thing, but I'm not sure.
The problem is that the Gtk file chooser now has this very annoying autocomplete function. As soon as I've typed enough characters that (say) hitting TAB in bash would complete the filename, the Gtk file chooser completes the filename for me without my having to hit anything. While this sounds convenient, I type fast, and I often know where I want to go, so it ends up being MUCH slower as I have to go back and edit all of the "helpful" completions that the file chooser gave me.
So, for example, suppose I want to go to /home/rknop/temp/subdir/file.txt. I know this. I start typing it. However, by the time I type the "t" of "temp", the file chooser fills in the rest for me, and now I see:
/home/rknop/temp/emp/
I find this behavior extremely annoying. TAB-completion is great, but it's great because it's under my control. This is not under my control. If I had to think for a second before I typed each character, I can see how this feature would be helpful, but as it is it makes the file chooser extremely painful to use.
Is there a way I can disable this? I've been googling around, and have not found anything in Gtk settings that lets me disable this.
Where I'm seeing it right now is in Firefox, but I've seen it in other places as well.
Please help! It's driving me nuts! (I feel like GTK in general was great 10 years ago, and has been becoming more annoying ever since.)
