digital video

i have an avi file that i would like to be able to put on dvd. i am trying to learn all this myself. so i am not looking for a how-to website. i have read them. the problem is that the video i have is 560x240 and i need to get it to 720x480... with smoothing though. i have got it to 720x480 but it is has an annoying pixel looking screen. now i know that when i fullscreen the file with xine or mplayer it is smooth looking, and appears quite crisp. is there a way to use the xine libs or mplayer libs to output the file to 720x480 with smoothing? does anyone know how?

I believe that both avidemux and transcode can do this without a problem. I know avidemux has a filter for the type of resizing, and you can use one with anti-aliasing and all.

You'll also need to add borders to it, or have a distorted image.

cool thanks ill man them and see if i cant figure it out. i did try avidemux before, but i wound up with a green screen and that was it. dont know what happened there. ill try again. Can you give me a sample script for avidemux to do this? and i also messed with transcode several times but had a small problem.... it didnt stop.. ever. i mean.. a 2 hour movie, at 29 fps (roughly) isnt 900000 frames total... so something was wrong with what i did. like i said.. i am not wanting an actual how to, but i might need alittle bit of a script or ok maybe alittle how to, cause i dont seem to be able to get it. thanks again for the quick response.
