custom linux splash screen

Ok, i was wondering how i could make a custom splash screen that would show up everytime you started X (regardless of what WM you started) an example of what i'm talking about would we with NVIDIA's linux driver, after installing it, when you start X, you get a NVIDIA splash screen (you can disable it if you want though) anyways, just wondering if anybody knew how to make a custom one.

I think there is a file in linux that has all of the resources for a splash screen that you can edit with a program called reshacker.
