CUPS - can't login even as a root

Hello, I installed cups on my debian lenny PC and can't login at http://localhost:631/ using lynx (console only machine).

Code:
Terminal:/etc# id root
uid=0(root) gid=112(lpadmin) groups=112(lpadmin)
so my user have rights to login to cups I think.

I tried lppasswd, but:
Code:
Terminal:/etc# lppasswd
Enter password:
Enter password again:
lppasswd: user "root" and group "lp" do not exist.
lppasswd: Password file not updated!
Code:
Terminal:/etc# addgroup lp
addgroup: The group `lp' already exists.
also
Code:
Terminal:/etc/init.d# ./cups restart
Restarting Common Unix Printing System: cupsd.
don't help

I'm so angry, fighting with this all day i just want jump through the window :/

Someone have idea what is going on ?

You must make sure the lpd service is stopped and the cups service is started:
Quote:
/sbin/service lpd stop
/sbin/service cups start
http://localhost:631 will not work for CUPS if lpd service is running.

That's news for me, thanks.

I also noted that sometimes you can use root's password (the real one for the OS, not the one for CUPS). I don't know how or under what circumstances that happens and it is not always i.e with every installation true but may be worth a try.
