Cross platform program on linux & XP


im looking for a sotfware that allows me to switch between linux and xp, just like vmware,but im looking for free one......

if i wanna use vmware, which one should i use? workstation? virtual center, ....etc? thx a lot

Do you want to have the entire OS emulated or do you just want some applications emulated? If the later I would suggest Wine as it will allow you to just some Windows applications. I don't know that much about VMware, or at least the different favors, I do know that if your intention is to play games that are Windows based, it would be better to run them through Wine. VMware doesn't directly connect the emulated OS to the hardware.

its better to have the entire OS emulated...i have read something about plex86....can it do that? what is IA-32 architecture...? .....what i need to do is just a linux under windows platform...that's it...any idea?
