Cross-platform encryption alternative to TrueCrypt

I've been using TrueCrypt to encrypt my external drive for a couple of years. My main system is Linux, but occasionally I have to use the drive on Windows.

TrueCrypt had version for each system so it wasn't a problem at all, but after today's news about the discontinuing of TrueCrypt, I'm looking for an alternative that I can use equally in both operating systems.

Maybe this could be of use; http://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/com...s_dead/chtilm5
There's alot of very long replies on reddit about truecrypt at the moment, could be worthwhile skiimming through them for suggestions on alternatives.

I can't vouch for DiskCryptor (not heard of it until recently), but it claims to be open source and cross platform.

A fork may be on the way, so wait a bit:

Here's a possibility as well, but only AES (NSA approved):

not sure if either of these are cross platform, but hope they help:

https://code.google.com/p/cryptsetup/

they have been recommended by the Fedora project as alternatives to TrueCrypt as TrueCrypt is on the no-no list for Fedora:

According to the Audit that is going on it seems that TrueCrypt 7.1a is still save to use. Two different projects have formed to pick up and fork TC. CipherShed and truecrypt.ch. The truecrypt.ch forum has been down for a while now, so I am not sure what that is about. There have been a few differences between the two projects, but also attempts to cooperate.

The CipherShed forums are still new and can be found here. Feel free to post your expectations, wishes and others!
