creating an image gallery

hi,

i am trying to design an image gallery that would display the image in a certin directory.

so if i had a directory called images, i would like the web user to be able to automatically as soon as he goes to that link, get the images displayed???!?!?

Is this possible, i hear PHP is the way! how can it be done???

I would use compupic or xnview to create a thumbnail page/pages. Just an idea.
