copy dvd

I would like to copy acouple of my dvds onto my hd.

What is the best Ubuntu or Fedora compatible program to do this? If the dvd is encrypted, will it still copy it?

Maybe I should ask: where can I get libdvdcss?? Apparently, I don't have it in Ubuntu.

Handbrake is quiet good at copying/converting dvd's. For the libdvdcss add medibuntu to your repositories
Handbrake has a ppa at http://ppa.launchpad.net/stebbins/ha...eleases/ubuntu.

I added medibuntu according to the howto page of medibuntu, but I still don't have or can't get libdvdcss2.

It is not there.

Sorry, I found it! But libdvdcss2 does not show up in Ubuntu Software Manager. It needs to be downloaded separately, then installed.

The medibuntu page seems to say it would then be seen in the software manager.

That won't install libdvdcss2:

pedro@pedro-bedro:~$ sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package libdvdcss2 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'libdvdcss2' has no installation candidate

After pedro@pedro-bedro:~$ apt-get update everzthing seems to work.

And

pedro@pedro-bedro:~$ sudo apt-get install app-install-data-medibuntu apport-hooks-medibuntu
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package app-install-data-medibuntu

Thanks, I got it sorted! What was missing was

pedro@pedro-bedro:~$ apt-get update

everything seems to work now. apt didn't know about the new repos, or hadn't put them in the software manager. After adding them and 'apt-get update', all is calm, all is bright!

Merry Xmas out there from behind The Great Firewall'

Hi again. I am trying to install handbrake. I followed the instructions to install the ppa in ubuntu. I get this.

pedro@pedro-bedro:~$ sudo apt-get install handbrake
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package handbrake is not available, but is referred to by another package.

E: Package 'handbrake' has no installation candidate
pedro@pedro-bedro:~$

Any tips out there?

Since you added PPAs, but you didn't indicate that you ran an update, so...
Code:
sudo apt-get update
THEN
Code:
apt-get install handbrake

I did that, see above post #9. That is to say, I most definitely ran apt-get update!

Also I downloaded the above package, installed it via Ubuntu Software Centre. It said use ghb from the command line. I did. I get this.

pedro@pedro-bedro:~$ sudo gbh
[sudo] password for pedro:
sudo: gbh: command not found
pedro@pedro-bedro:~$

Something is not right. Any tips??
