converting flash


I have found a trick to capture a flash video stream and store it. want I am looking for is either I way to convert this flash file into some other video format (avi/mpeg) or some non-proprietary piece of software which would make is possible for me to view this file on my box.

any suggestions?

ffmpeg is the swiss army knife of video-conversion tools. There is a howto on the Ubuntu forums on converting .flv to .mpg here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1656936
