Please help!!! I'm fairly new to linux. I installed RedHat Linux 7.2 with using GRUB. I want to setup console/serial connection to the server but I can't seem to connect via console.
From Redhat Linux 7.0 using LILO, I was able to get the console connections to work by doing the followings.
Edit the /etc/inittab file by adding the following to the run levels for console connections: (add this to the end of the getty list)
S0:12345:respawn:/sbin/getty ttyS0 VC
And edit the /etc/lilo.conf file to allow console information during boot up. Add serial=0,9600n8 after the timeout entry. Add
append="console=tty0 console=ttyS0"
at the end of the options list for each image tagRun lilo to install the change. I also create the console device by doing the followings.
cd /dev
rm -f console tty0
mknod -m 622 console c 5 1
mknod -m 622 tty0 c 4 0
rm /etc/ioctl.save
But installing 7.2 and using GRUB. I edit the same /etc/inittab file and instead of editing /etc/lilo.conf, I edit /etc/grub.conf file with the information. I'm not able to get it working. Do you know what I need to do to get the console/serial connection working.
