Confused with Apache

Hi

Can someone just explain the difference between the file /etc/init.d/apache and the file /usr/sbin/apachectl - when you want to start and stop apache you go /usr/sbin/apachectl stop/start/restart..

- so what is the /etc/init.d/apache file used for. Because if I want to stop pptpd, i go to /etc/init/d/pptpd stop - Basically why do I stop and start most services from init.d but not apache?? (I stop apache via /usr/sbin)

Cheers Blake

The init.d directory is reserved and mainly used for startup/shutdown scripts for your different runlevels, bootup, etc.

t3gah,

We really appreciate your helpfulness on the forums but it seems like every recent post of yours just point's members to links of howto's. Don't do this, this is not a RTFM site. Either provide a solution and then link a person to the howto for more help or ignore the post and move on.

If you have a problem with these rules, email me or the site admin in private, do not reply in this thread or any other to discuss.

Regards.
