./configuration problems

hey,
Every time I attempt to run ./configuration, it gives me an error reading that no compiler was found it $path. I tried logging in as root to install it, but that did not help at all. Also, it keeps saying that make is not a valid command.

I am using SUSE Linux Personal Edition, v. 9.1.

thanks for the help!

you didn't install any development tools. go back into Yast and install them ( note you need more than gcc to compile programs - it's better if you're not hurting on hard drive space to install everything, it will avoid alot of headaches).

do "gcc -v" and make sure there is a symlink "cc" pointing back to gcc ( or "export CC=/usr/bin/gcc" ( make sure that's where gcc is)).

as for make, if you type "make" and get command not found it's either not installed or not in your PATH.

sounds like your paths are broken or gcc was installed somewhere else that it can't find it, not 100% sure but find where gcc is and then try putting that path in your $PATH. Can't tell you how to do that as I forgot how to but google it and i'm sure you'll find something. This is all a wild guess and I could be wrong
