Computing Performance due to emulator

Hi,
Does anybody knows what type of performance degradation (if any) would exist for running a windows program under a Windows emulator on Linux? Meaning, what would be the expected degradation for the window application and what would be the performance impact to the rest of the system environment due to the window app running on the emulator in the system?
thanks,
m

Are you talking about Wine and derivatives (WineX, Crossover Office etc.)?

It is a compatibility layer, not an emulator, strictly speaking; the performance under Linux has been claimed to be better. I've never benchmarked myself. I assume the former is because Wine has only a subset of the Windows libraries/API.

HTH,
