computer won't boot up after compiling kernel 2.6.16 in Aurox 11.0

Hello

I want to run lirc in my box and I needed to compile new kernel for it. I have Aurox 11.0 with kernel 2.6.12. I run "make oldconfig"
, had to answer to a few questions and compiled it. It ended up succesful. But when I tried to "make install" following warning showed up:
WARNING: No module sata_via found for kernel 2.6.16, continuing anyway

I have SATA drive and via chipset. When I booted up system
with new kernel (it's done in grub in my case), computer loads
kernel and then shows some errors and hangs up. I think the problem
is with this module. Maybe I'm wrong?. It seems that this new kernel
doesn't support sata on via chipset, but 2.6.12 does. But it seems
improbable. Newer kernel should support sata via, shouldn't?.
Maybe I should try with other version of kernel?.

Cheers

I'd advice to use the latest stable one. If you compile the kernel manually, you can use "make menuconfig" for a (perhaps) nicer interface, or "make xconfig" if you got what it takes to show it in X. Anyway, you should check out what it says about the module that produces the error (in "make menuconfig" you can see some info) and try to figure out what's the problem. Also, remember always not to remove the older kernel before you have successfully booted and tested that the newer one works..

I'm running a 2.6.15 kernel, with a working sata_via module..

I tried another kernel (2.6.15) without success.
The same error shows up. When I do "make install" this is what I get
(the last few lines):

Kernel: arch/i386/boot/bzImage is ready (#1)
sh /usr/src/kernels/linux-2.6.15/arch/i386/boot/install.sh 2.6.15 arch/i386/boot/bzImage System.map "/boot"
WARNING: Couldn't open directory /lib/modules/2.6.15: No such file or directory
FATAL: Could not open /lib/modules/2.6.15/modules.dep.temp for writing: No such file or directory
/lib/modules/2.6.15 is not a directory.
mkinitrd failed
make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
make: *** [install] Error 2

I created 2.6.15 directory in /lib/modules than I get warning
which I posted before.
