is it possible to compile the current version of vmware for linux 2.6.0?
when i try, i use the command vmware-config.pl --compile, but then get an error about libs and header files...
i am assuming that the problem is similar to compiling nvidia drivers on 2.6, so is there a patch that is downloadabe to solve this or should i wait for a new release that may support the new kernel?
For future reference, the modules will compile as long as you replace all instances of /proc/ksyms with /proc/kallsyms in /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl
there is a link on that site to a place with a vmware fixer, i tried that but it did not work with my version of vmware (4.05), but i'm guessing it will work with other ones
however, the only need for that patch was to get the vmnet modules to compile, but if the ones that already come with vmware compile with the above changes, then you won't need the patch
okay, guess i got too excited when vmware compiled
vmware (version 4.05 and 4.01) both compile under 2.6 kernel, but neither of them are able to access my cd drive or my dvd drive
i cannot figure out why... my cd drive and dvd drive both work perfectly for everything else; i even tried reenabling ide-scsi emulation but to no avail...
has anyone been able to do an actual OS install in vmware under kernel 2.6?
I am trying as well...and I checked out the above link. But for some reason I can't even get vmware to recognize there is a kernel source (when it asks where the source is - default /usr/src/linux/include...which is where my headers are...it says the headers like asm and net etc aren't there! But they are)
They can't be there if it is saying they are not. Try doing a search for your include directory, I tryed it after upgrading the kernel but found the source was installed in a slightly different place to the previous one
e.g. instead of /usr/source/linux/include it was something like /usr/source/include, it was a directory out or something.
I have /usr/src/linux-2.6.01mdk/include and I have a symlink which ends up in the same place (ie: /usr/src/linux->./linux-2.6.01mdk) and I've looked under include and all the headers are there.
