Question Compiling Question

Anyone ever heard of virtual dub? Well, if your even halfway into video editing you need to get your hands on it. But the only problem is that it was wrote for windows, but it is open suorce software and the source code is readily available, but I can't seem to get it compiled. Is there a way to compile this? If you would like to see the source for yourself go to www.virtualdub.org. If this is not possible, then does anyone have a good suggestion for a video editor that can accomplish the same tasks?

This program was written for the Windows OS. To run it natively in linux, it will need to be ported to linux.

You could always run it in Wine...

I tried with wine a while ago - didn't work.It did sort of work with winex.BUT - I got no idea how you would get the codecs to work.
Have a look at avidemux. It did come along really well so far for a program that is only one year in the making. There are rpm's for Suse but I don't know how good they are. With debian the whole stuff like divx ffmpeg xvid and so on gets installed automatically.
You can always compile it yourself if there are any codecs missing with the rpm. It's a no-brainer.
