Compiling Gimp 2.8 problems

Hello, i've been running gimp 28rc on Opensuse 12.1 and was happy enough i decided to compile the full release. I've removed the previous version and am now trying to compile 2.8.
I am new to compiling but giving it a shot.
I keep getting the following error

Code:
*** Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occurred. This usually means GTK+ is incorrectly installed.
configure: error: Test for GTK+ failed. See the file 'INSTALL' for help.
I have installed gtk 2.24.10 from the opensuse factory repo, but i'm still having issues. Here is the results of zypper search -is gtk

Code:
klaye@linux-2imn:~/data/build/gimp-2.8.0> zypper search -is gtk

I can't work it out.. Here's the config.log file

Hey mate, thanks for the quick reply. I tried what you said, restarted my system just in case it hadn't registered it, and then retried ./configure. It didn't work, it failed with the same error.

OK, then better use the "final" gimp-2.8.0 ( 2.8 rc2 is buggy (very buggy))..
ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/gimp-2.8.0.tar.bz2

Suse 12.1, I used these ( Installed with "--prefix=/usr/" ) ...
babl-0.1.10.tar.bz2 gegl-0.2.0.tar.bz2 glib-2.30.2.tar.xz
gtk+-2.24.10.tar.xz gdk-pixbuf-2.24.1.tar.xz .

The one and only configure thing : The Suse 12.1 librsvg-devel is not recognized.
'make' : No issues.

When libgimp-2_0-0 libgimpui-2_0-0 ( version 2.6.11 ) are removed :
The new 2.8.0 will can be used.

Hello again knudfl. I just noticed that the gtk i'd installed from the factory repo was not working. I only have two gtk2 programs, firefox and gpodder, and they both refuse to open; so i'm currently in the process of downgrading all the packages i previously upgraded. I will try to compile gtk from source instead. I find the suse names for packages overly confusing however; before i compile, which gtk packages should i remove from my system?

Thankyou

I didn't remove any glib gtk babl gegl gdk-pixbuf .
The new installs to /usr/ are just overwriting the current versions.

A more correct way would of course be to build rpm packages
for the new versions. May take some extra time.

Firefox and the old gimp 2.6.11 worked OK with the new versions
of glib gtk babl gegl gdk-pixbuf .
I tested only those two gtk applications before removing gimp-2.6.11.
