CITRIX Launch.ica Problem

Howdy All!

I'm the ancient newb, here (pushing 70, but I've been around since mainframes filled whole rooms and you walked through your computer. I'm very far away from any real technical expertise, but I keep my hand in and keep trying new things, ergo Linux. I'll do a better intro in the right place later but thought the bg would be helpful to preface my question.

The wife works at a location that requires a secure gateway and they rely on the CITRIX client to gain access. I bought her an Asus netbook that runs on Linux - my first real attempt to use the os although I barked my shins on Unix many years ago but never became very proficient as you'll soon find out.

The problem is that CITRIX wants something called launch.ica to open after it negotiates its login process and when one tries to choose the first remote app. No matter what I do, I can't get this process (launch.ica) to do its thing. After many false starts, I've finally arrived at a consistent result which is that I get the message "Insufficient memory to launch the application."

I'm open to suggestions and further questions to define the problem.

TIA

Hi rh,

I doubt the problem is due to insufficient memory, can you confirm how much is present ?

From a terminal, run the command: 'free -m'

Could you also please let us know the version of Citrix client you have installed ?

It sounds a little like your browser may not have associated '.ica' files with Citrix, if you are using Firefox please go to the Edit menu and click on Preferences... then select the Applications tab, you should see which app is associated with .ica .. please let us know that as well

cheers

Hey kbp!

Thank you very much for the response!

I am using Firefox - it came on the Asus. I checked Preferences in Edit and found under Content a Manage File Types. Here I found the .ICA file type and the action was "Save to Disk". I found that I can change the action but it wants to be associated with a software app. I don't know what app it should open with nor do I know how to find out.

Update: googling for ".ica file extension" turned up a page that says that this is a CITRIX file format and that under Linux apps that can read the file type are Citrix Presentation Server Client or any text editor. I'm still looking.

Can you help me with this?

Thank you, again.

If not already installed, grab the latest linux Citrix client from here:

http://www.citrix.com/English/ss/dow...&c3=ost1349860

Note: requires OpenMotif v.2.3.1

See how you go with the installation, let us know if you run into trouble

cheers

Thanks again for the help!

I have downloaded the latest from CITRIX. I'm not certain that I installed it correctly or at all. I used the GUI but I somehow don't think it works like what I'm used to in XP. I'm reading a Linux tutorial which is pretty much going over the command line stuff. Haven't figured out how to determine if the application (launch.ICA) is installed and don't know yet what program to link the extension to to execute when CITRIX launches the file.

But I haven't given up, yet.
