Changing MH folder in Claws mail

The title pretty much says it all. I would like to know if it's possible, and of course how, to change the MH folder in claws. I don't really like how it's displayed right in my home directory. I'd prefer it if I could use a hidden folder like maybe ~/.claws/ or something.

As far as I know, I don't think it is possible to alter the MH type mailbox in Claws.

I have feeling one can put the mail folder elsewhere - when installing maybe or try changing
Configuration| Edit Accounts | Edit Receive |Default inbox and give it a hidden name??

Hi Berticus,

I see there is an additional plugin in "More Plugins" called "mailMBOX" (see section 7.2 in the manual) - is that any help for what you want to do?

So any news on this? Great mail but it's a little silly having the mail visible right at home. And no, the mbox plugin didn't work for that.

Mail visible in home directory

Your comment Q, "it's a little silly having the mail visible right at home" is open to debate. I find it extremely handy, when, permission granted, informally picking up mail from another login. We use it often. I also find it hand to edit newly arrived mails. After many months with Claws I've concluded it is so handy having Mail in Home that it is certainly not "silly.'

Well yes, that is my opinion, certainly. But being forced to have it visible is not my preference, and evidently not other people's as well. I will just stick with thunderbird even if it's not as light.

Hello all,

I'm just trying out Claws Mail and I like it a lot, but this thing about having my mailbox folders visible is a big no-no, especially when I have several mail accounts which I like to keep in their own mailboxes so this feature makes my /home folder quite messy.

This thread is quite old. Nowadays, Hasn't this feature been improved yet?

Lightbulb SOLUTION to original question

This is a little awkward but since it only needs to be performed once for each email address, it is the only solution to date.

Let's assume your login user name on your machine is maxx, your email address is maxx@somedomain.net. Lets also assume the folder name you want to store your mail in is /home/maxx/987654321/somedomain.

1. CLOSE Claws mail application.

2. Open the file /home/maxx/.claws-mail/folderlist.xml in your favorite text editor.

3. Locate the first line that reads something like this:
<folder type="mh" path="maxx@somedomain.net" sort="10" collapsed="1" name="maxx@somedomain.net">

4. Modify it to look like this:
<folder type="mh" path="/home/maxx/987654321/somedomain/maxx" sort="10" collapsed="1" name="maxx@somedomain.net">

5. Save the folderlist.xml file.

6. Close your text editor.

7. Disconnect from the Internet. Open Claws mail application.

8. Close Claws mail application.

9. Look in your files for the folder "/home/maxx/987654321/somedomain/maxx".

10. If it is not there, check your spelling and step through these instructions again.

11. If it is there, Hurray, go to step 12.

12. I am going to assume that you did the default adding of your email address when you first setup Claws mail. If you did, then you should have a folder /home/maxx/maxx@somedomain.net. Go to that folder and copy everything in that fold EXCEPT the "queue" folder. Paste the contents into /home/maxx/987654321/somedomain/maxx.

13. Reconnect to the Internet. Open Claws mail application.

14. Your done! Unless you have more than one email address.

15. Repeat.
