Question change of administrator during night!

I dont know what exactly happened. i did some changes to my kali during the day(yesterday). I had problems to set up my VPN and proxychains, and i had this "great" idea i could try something like Wicd instead of network-manager. So i decided to uninstall network-manager. i realized its not a good idea so i installed it back. it took a very long time, maybe even an hour but it worked, and later i even manged to solve all my problems with vpn and proxychains. Later, i went to sleep. everything was fine, i turned of my machine, and this morning when i started it i realized something is wrong. I, user named holub wasnt admin anymore, but admin was linuxconfig. of course i can switch between these too, but thats not the only change. some of my files are missing, and i mean very important files. The desktop is default desktop as if you install kali for the first time. On the left panel there are these tools like armitage, BeeF and similar, but i had this panel strongly customized before. Does any of you have any idea what could have happened and most importantly how i could solve this s**t? Thank you in advance

Learn more about how the systems work and what you are doing.

Also Kali is not a beginner friendly distro.

You might find this helpful https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ad-4175614092/

You fail to mention how Kali is installed, is this the first time you rebooted? Do you have persistence set up? And how long have you been using Linux?

Hope this helps.

this is really an insult for me. i am using linux for 3 years and kali for 1 year. i am a professional pentester. if someone has a problem and try everything he knows, then there is time to ask in some forum for help. i usually appreciate any help but this is just [removed]. you should be ashamed. i maybe know more about kali than you. you think that link about "what is kali linux" is gonna help me? you are fools and i really regret that i registered here. people like you should not be on the internet. you didnt even understand what the problem is, but that may be my fault. but anyway you really insulted me and [removed].

First off, I don't think any of the replies where meant as an insult, I know mine wasn't. And any "professional" pentester would have seen the reason behind the replies.

I fail to see where you mention what you tried. Maybe I missed it. It seems your post contains almost no usable information. Maybe supply a little more useful info instead of getting abusive?

Kali defaults to a single user "root" , most things NEED root privilege to run

do not create a "user" account

if you are not root anymore then user error

reinstall the os
