Challenge: Data files from Solaris ZFS to Linux filesystem
I currently have an x86 Solaris 10 system running mirrored ZFS filesystem disks (everything is ZFS filesystem, including the booting). Two 1TB drives.
I'm going to un-mirror the two drives, take one of them and install Linux (probably Centos V5.5) in a few small-ish partitions, and leave a large chunk for the non-system data files.
The end goal is to have a Linux system using LVM and RAID1 for system and data, with the data files from the old Solaris residing on the new Linux system.
So... will I have better luck trying to
A) Mount the minty-fresh Linux filesystems under Solaris and push the data files from the Solaris filesystem to the Linux one
or
B) Try to get Fuse/ZFS installed under Linux and mount the Solaris drive and pull the files off of the Solaris filesystem onto the Linux one.
After I'm done I'll repartition the old Solaris drive and complete/resilver the RAID1 mirror set under Linux.
Yeah, I could build the Linux on a 2nd box and just do a network file transfer, but I'm ambitious and want to attempt the disk-to-disk method first.
Thanks,
