Certain keys don't respond in certain programs

I'm having a problem with the enter key responding in certain programs, specifically pork, eterm and aterm. My keyboard works fine pretty much everywhere else that I've tried, but for these particular programs they become pretty much useless if I can't use the enter key. I haven't found any related problems when searching, can anyone help me out?

I'm using a Presario 1500 running Gentoo, kernel 2.6.0test3mm2 - though the problem existed under 2.4.2x as well.

Thanks for any help, this has been bugging me for weeks now...
