CentOS 5.5... S/PDIF sound problems
Hi
I installed CentOS 5.5 x86_64 yesterday and been having a tough time finding display-drivers, configuring ssh etc....
Im going to use it as a SSH/FTP/somethingelse-server AND switch to X to watch movies on my TV from time to time.
But now I can't get the sound right. I want to use S/PDIF to send 5.1 to my reciever.
Earlier I could get 2.0 in the tests in graphical mode and in speaker-test through S/PDIF.
But now nothing....
I figured I needed some drivers and found Realtek AC97 and High def audio driver for linux.
Tried High Def first. After installation I couldn't get sound anymore....
Then I tried AC97....nothing.... I don't even know if it was installed properly.
Now I can't even test sounds at "Sound Preferences". Error message:
audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert !
audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=music: Could
not open audio device for playback.
I can't choose Default PCM device either.... no options.
Apperently there was something called ALSA installed. But I dont know how to use it.
If you can't guess by yourself, Im pretty new to this... so if you know what I should do next, please speak english
Does anyone know if there's is a driver (or solution) that "just works"?
Or at least how I should go back to how it was before I started?
My patience is running out but I want to avoid going Ubuntu.
My mobo is Zotac ION ITX F
