Exclamation Cant install programs from an offline source and run them.

I have used the Advanced package manager on my ubuntu system to add a cdrom source. I cannot work out were it installs my files to or how to run them.

The reason i am tring to install from the cd is i have all the files i need for the java compilier and the binary reader thingy already on it.

surely there must be a way to install them without going on the internet?

Are they installed already ?

Without knowing the names of the programs or if you have installed them it's hard to say, but the first place I would check is /usr/bin . Just open a terminal, then "cd /usr/bin" then "ls | less"(that's the backslash\ key+shift), then use the page down or page up buttons to find the program. If they are already installed you should find them there. It sounds like they have not been added to the menu of whatever desktop you are using. You could use a menu editor to add them, or just start them from the command line, usually just typing the name will work, if it doesn't try the whole path, example "/usr/bin/thisprogramname" will start it. Let me know if this worked or not.

Best of luck

David

P.S. Adding more info in your post will help others help you faster.
