Unhappy cannot connect to the internet with modem


hi,
I downlaoded and installed the proper HSF mdoem driver for my conexant
HSF,modem from linuxant.com,and sccessfully get connected to the
internet with kppp.unfourtunately i tried to configure another
dialup connection for modem with ppp0 in network but there was the
error "cannot find modem",the problem get is i want to connect to the
internet in kppp,there is now the error message "cannot open modem"i
tried to install the driver again but the output is this error message:
Warning existing driver modules found under /lib/modules/2.s4.20-8/misc
pre-built driver modules that seems compatable with your system were
found under/usr/lib/hsfmodem/modules/binaries/i686/lh/linux-2.4.20-8
error:%post(hsfmodem-6.03.001....k2.4.20-8-lrh) scriptlet failed
exit status1
even i removed the /usr/lib/hsfmodem and tried to install again the
output is the above error again,plz help what to do otherwise i have to
delete the all red hat 9 os and install it again.

It's probably a matter of pointing kppp back to the right device. Open kppp, go to configure and then the device tab. Make sure the correct device is selected. For youer modem it should be /dev/SHSF0 but it may be installed as /dev/modem.

well first do uninstall it

#rpm -e hsfmodem

then reinstall it

#rpm -ivh hsfmodem...

while setup Internet connection in kppp select the dialuge setup, and also from Modem tap do query your modem.

If you want to connect to internet using Network, or there is another option some ever in the menu "Internet Configuration Wizard" however it will give you message that "no modem found" ignore it.
select "/dev/modem" from device
and then put your ISP info, follow the rest.

Then Activate you your newly ppp0 or may be ppp1 if one already exists.
