I have 4 COM ports listed, which are links to /dev/tty entries. I've just deleted one of them, using the file manager, and Wine still seems to run happily. Try moving the excess ones to the waste-basket and see what happens.

Hello David
With no devices connected to the PC Wine creates COM1 to COM32 which are linked to /dev/ttyS0 to /dev/ttyS31. If I delete them from dosdevices wine recreates them. If I set each one to a null value in regedit then Wine creates new ones starting at COM33.
Yes, the one I deleted has come back. If you run the registry editor and go to local machine - hardware - device maps, you can find them listed under serialcomm. You could try deleting there and see if that works.

Nice idea but still no luck. I deleted the unwanted listings in serialcomm and also dosdevices but they all reappeared moments later.
