I take it that you compiled from source.
Use ./configure --with-nptl (or ntpl, I always mix the two up)
Also don't run wineserver before running wine, just in case you are doing that. A lot of people make that mistake.

If you compiled your own kernel, non-rpm, vanilla-type, don't use nptl (ntpl)
What happened, is RedHat backported that part of the kernel from 2.5 back to 2.4. So non-RedHat kernels won't have it.
Also make sure you're running it within X11

No problemo
Happy to have helped.
They really should make a FAQ board.. I think I'll suggest that.

...hmm, well I've been trying to compile through the CVS version,...

If I splurged and "bought" the $5.00 RPM from transgaming.com, do you think it might work correctly with the fonts?

Thanks!

whenever i've used wine or winex with a mounted windoze partition, the fonts always either screw up or look aweful. if you insist on running wine using a mounted windoze partition, you might wanna rename your fonts directory, cause wine will just rebuild the font metrics. however, i recommend making a fake c drive somewhere containing:

windows
windows/system
windows/system32
windows/fonts
program files

(you can leave these directories empty btw). this guy has some really kewl scripts that download the newest wine or winex cvs, compile it, and install it for you; they will even let you run wine and winex side by side (really nice):

http://ting.homeunix.org/

and last but not least, the ultimate source for wine help:

http://frankscorner.org/

hope this helps at least a little...
