Hey all,
Trying to build Gimp 2.0 on Mandrake 10.0 Community, 2.6.3mdk kernel. There HAS GOT TO BE a better way to manage dependencies...isn't there any kind of build system that I can grab the source and automatically download all dependencies? This seems much to complicated to tolerate. -Alex
The folks at Maven (http://maven.apache.org) are trying to do exactly that. Unfortunately, Maven is still very much still a "work in progress" ... and it's for Java only.
Since you're using Mandrake, how about you just use the gimp that comes on the cds? Uprmi will solve all dependencies, and installing the software should be a snap.
The Gimp from the CDs is version 1.2 or something, but I want the new 2.0. Also, i'd like to learn how to compile programs with dependencies from source (i'm working up to a new gnome 2.6 compile)
You're best bet here is to see what dependency problems are being reported, and to install the dependencies one by one until you have resolved them all.
