Well what are you trying to do. Will you integrate postfix with exchange? Will this be using any smart hosts? With out a clear definition of what you want to do it will be hard to give you an accurate answer.

Thanks for the reply.

I will explain. Apart from my existing server, I am planning for another mail server too.

I want postfix to be used for my company where postfix will be integrated with amavis, clam and spamassassin. I need to keep all spam mails away. I would also like to enable smtp authentication on the server. I am forced to provide a webmail solution too for the users.

This will not be connected to any exchange servers or so. The mail clients (such as OE, MS Outlook, Mozilla TB etc.) will be directly connecting to the server to send/recieve mails.

Here i would like to do one more thing :
The hassle of authenticating smtp requests can be given to dovecot, so that postfix will be free.

Postfix - Mail Transport Agent

Postfix is for the routing and delivery of email on your server. You are looking for several technologies beyond what Postfix handles. You will also need a mail delivery agent like Dovecot for delivering mail to end users via IMAP and POP. For delivering webmail a solution like Squirrelmail.

Dovecot is where filtering of messaging happens using Sieve a mail filtering language in conjunction with SpamAssasin and AMaViS + ClamAV

well. Then can someone help me in configuring dovecot to authenticate local users. I would like to authorize dovecot for the smtp authentication of my clients.

Now that if I telnet to port 143, it says " * OK Dovecot ready ". But if I issue the login command, it gives " login BAD Error in IMAP command received by server. "

I am running on version 1.0.15.
