Question bash: ./configure no such file or directory

When trying to install software the ./configure is giving me the bash: no such file in directory error. What did i do wrong?
Also, what other steps do i need to do to install software?

Did you change into the directory where the software you want to install is located? If it can't find the configure script in the current directory that may be all it is.

Or did it start and then generate the error? If so, does it say which file/directory it couldn't find?
