audio cd works - mp3's, streaming audio, flash sound don't
I have broke my Vector. My audio cd plays but my mp3's, streaming audio, and flash sound does not work. In short only kscd will play sound. I have been unable to get any error messages that will help. Here is the break down:
amarok - plays 2 seconds and freezes
juk - shows that it is playing but won't give any sound
xine - plays 2 seconds and freezes
flash (firefox) - plays 2 seconds and hangs/repeats 2 seconds of sound
KSCD - works fine (playing analog audio)
Do you use alsa drivers? If so, compiled in the kernel?
Check if you use the latest ones. It could be also a weird behaviour of lame (mp3 decoder). Check wich decoder you use and try there to find a solution.
Opps forgot to tell you I am using the newest form of lame and flac. I have ripped one song three time flac, mp3(lame), and as a wave. All three crash the media players. Could this be a midi problem?
I think is more related with audio drivers and soundcard. Is your soundcard detected and configured with alsa?
You can do an "alsaconf" as root to automatically detect/configure your audio card
It depends on wether the CD streams the music directly to the soundcard or the music is streamed to the computer and then to the card. If it's streamed directly to the card, no software is involved, thus it's normal that works.
I'm sorry to say I've no more ideas of what could be the problem
Here is a little more information that may help
using XMMS:
->OSS driver works fine
->Alsa give these errors
Please check that:
1. Your Soundcard is configureed properly
2. You have the correct output plugin selected
3. No other program is blocking the soundcard.
->eSound: makes "skipping" noise until I kill ards via the taskmanager
