hello all long time reader first time poster. I have been working with fedora Core 5 for about a month now and first I've got to say IT IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Much better than Winblows. anyway, I'm really intrested in the Audio Recording/rendering aspect of the software and everyone has told me to get Audacity. so I did and it works great unless I want to record something. On Play back I get this wierd high pitched noise, that I don't get if I'm just listening to something through the system.
Say I had a mic hooked up to the computer. if I turn the mic volume up I can hear everything crystal clear (or as close as can get with a cheap mic) but if I hit the record button and say a few words, then listen to it. I can make out everything that I had said but there is a high pitched noise over EVERYTHING. I've tried lots of stuff but I can't seem to get my mind around what's going on I've tried adjusting mic volume, shutting everything else down and having only audacity open, adjusting capture and the main volumes. but everytime I keep getting this damn noise anyone out there have any similar problems??
anyone out there mess with music stuff on Linux??
anyone know if there is anything like Fruity loops for Fedora????
(already tried ardour, rose garden, AUDACITY, Hydrogen, and a couple of others)
I think taht if I get it working right Audacity could deffinatly replace it's winblows equivalent sound forge but still looking for something like fruity.
(hydrogen's close but it isn't quite what I'm looking for)
I just wanted to thank everyone here for their help they may not have helped me directly but all the threds have been EXTREMLY useful.
thanks in advance to any advice
-Aaron
unfortunatly not, I pretty sure because if I select the source to record from as the main volume it still does it,
say I open audacity then play something through XMMS and record it in Audacity I get the same problem
Thank you so much kim,
I never even thought of the sampling rate!!
I knew it was going to be something simple like that. I tested the mic and it worked with out a hitch then I pluged in my bass (the real reason I started all of this) and that came through perfectly as well. now I can get on with Recording!!!!
BUT... I'm still looking for something that is kinda like Fruity loops so I can take what I record and lay it down into a track and then lay a drm loop and some guitar ontop of it and suggestions would be extremly helpful.
but once again THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you have helped me out ALOT!!!!
I have this exact same problem it seems; audicity will record but really terrible, scratchy noises pervade the recording. How exactly do you go about fixing that? If I change the sample rate, audicity comes up with an error every time I try to record an audio track after messing with the settings. "Error while opening sound device."
I don't know how to get Ardour to use my tascam US-122 either. It has been pretty frustrating (being a newbie and all) trying to get this recording stuff to work. Does anyone know how to use the USB input as the primary capturing device for Ardour? I would need step by step instruction... Yeah, I went to Ardour's website manual and have been trying to use all kinds of ALSA mixers, but I just can't seem to get anything out of Ardour. For the record, if anyone can help me out, I'm running Kubuntu on a Toshiba laptop. Thanks.
