Unhappy apt-get problems ;_;

Hi all.

I am working on an arm processor whose memory size is 232M. Tiny, I know.

I ran apt-get update, and it stopped updating at a point and i didnt know why. Well now, my memory is all used up. And I cant even modify and save files anymore.

Is there anyway I can undo the damage caused by running apt-get update?
Pls help!

there are a few things, it would help to have logs or output. if you have aptitude, run

aptitude clean -y && aptitude autoclean -y

else

apt-get clean -y && apt-get autoclean -y

It might have loaded apps into memory, and not cleared afterwards. This is assuming that "memory" is the Hard Drive. run:

df -h

before and afterwards, and make sure it actually did something

Cheers,

With sufficient swap space, there would not be a memory shortage. Apt-get update does not write anything to the disk till it has fetched all information, you may just need to power down and re-boot. If it said "done, fetched x amount of info in x amount of time", means it completed and wrote the info to the drive.

Valid. It might also be the port of Apt. When I was trying to get apt to work on the Intel XScale on an ARCOM, apt was not happy with some of the other ARM tools. I ended up writing a small replacement, granted it does not handle deps.

Also, the Disk Swap should *NOT* be active. On a system with that little disk space, I am guessing that its the boards on-board Flash. That has a very limited write cycle, I recommend a hard drive to solve both issues.

Cheers,

Thanks folks :-)

Apt-get clean worked fine, but when I tried running apt-get autoclean, I had a few errors, but at least the memory was cleared up, and I was able to edit files, so I'm happy for now. Thanks for your suggestions :-),
