apt-get is reacting funny to new packages

hi

i am trying to remaster knoppix and am trying to add/remove sofware. i tried to install more games with apt-get, but it requires that i remove core kde packages other important packages. I have used apt before and this has never been an issue. any ideas?

thanks,
rabbit2345

I have seen it before, but often these packages appear in the list of NEW packages to install.

Are you trying to install Lenny packages in Etch or so? Such jumps might cause that behaviour. What version is your Knoppix distro based on?

Can you afford to break this current install? If so, go ahead with the installation and re-install whatever is being dumped now. Make sure you are left with a bootable kernel

You can also check apt-cache show mygamepackage and apt-cache shopkg mygamepackage for dependencies and conflicts.

yes, i belive that some of the packages are debian lenny or etch packages, and i guess some may not be compatible. i am only trying to remaster knoppix 5.01

since i can recopy the entire system the start over, i will go ahead and try to do what apt-get wants me to do

thanks,
