Apache not working outside

I tried using apache for the first time today, and it works on my LAN but not in the outside world. http://68.71.103.54/index.html

I don't have DNS set up yet so I'm just using the IP. Apache came installed with RedHat 9, so I'm not sure what version it is. On my SMC router I have port 80 forwarded already to my Linux computer. In the httpd.conf I changed the ServerName to the IP.

Any clues to why it's not working?

Do you have a firewall blocking port 80 on your Linux machine ?

To use anything other than your IP address you will need a FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) not just DNS

The most likely explaination is that you haven't let port 80 through the firewall.

To check - open terminal and (as root) type 'setup'

and choose 'Firewall Configuration' from the menu.

Then 'Customize'

make sure you have a '*' by the WWW (HTTP) option.

Try setting the ServerName to localhost. Works for me that way.
Code:
ServerName localhost

I tried that and I tried turning it off completely but neither worked. Does it matter than when I choose the options and exit out of setup, and when I go back in it's set back on "High" for the firewall even if I set it differently.

Remember, it works fine on my network...if the firewall was set I'd think it wouldn't work at all.

That's normal - or at least my RH9 box does that and I haven't had any problems.

If the firewall is off and you still can't see the page externally the next thing it could be is your router or the routing on your LAN.

Have you got internet access on that PC? (if you have and it works the problem is probably with your SMC router and its NAT)

A quick google for SMC routers revealed the FAQ below, which maybe of help. -> its a step by step to let a webcam through an SMC router. (obviously swap whatever port number it uses for Port 80)

I changed the port being used to 8080, and it worked! I guess my ISP blocks 80
