Anything like old SGI dmfsmon nowadays? Auto-delete based on rules ...

SGI used to have a daemon called dmfsmon that would monitor directories and auto-delete files based on rules you could establish (high/low water marks for space available, what files to target, etc.).

Is there anything like that generally available for Linux?

I know it's easy to script out a particular solution, but a general facility makes more sense.

thx!

The only thing similar I can think of would be tmpwatch .. but it's not an exact fit.

That was part of the data migration facility. And no, there is no specific service for that.

The problem is that dmfsmon would only delete if there were a backup of the file that could be restored on demand.

Otherwise, the file deleted could just be an important one that just doesn't get used everyday.
