Amarok (v 1.4.4): Track information etc. not obtained on Debian system

Hi all

I'm using Amarok 1.4.4 (the most up-to-date in my Debian distribution).

Amarok works fine (I get sound, etc.), but no track information is obtained. If I try
Setting > Configure Amarok > Engine
I see the Audio CD Configuration section. This contains:
Default device: /dev/scd0
CBBD server: freedb.freedb.org Port 8880
So that's seems reasonable. I'm using the xine engine so I'm told in Settings.

But no track info is ever updated. My tracks are all called Track 1, Track 2, etc.

Perhaps related (but less important): Artist info is never found either.

For example, if I click on the Artist tab, I am told "Artist information could not be retrieved because the server was not reachable". Lyrics seems to work (but is not very helpful--my track names are all Track 1, etc. so I get some odd suggestions :->)

Any suggestions appreciated. I'm a bit of a novice, so it may be an obvious solution!

Thanks.

P.

You also have to be connected to the internet for the freedb.freedb.org part to work.

I'm connected to the internet (probably should have said, but I thought that was a no-brainer--even I knew that!). For example, lyrics are trying to be found; for example, I am posting here. My internet connections works fine.

It's like Amarok needs to know how to connect to the internet. There are no settings I can find in Amarok. I just don't know where to turn for this!
