RHEL, VPN, and SecurID Tokens, Am I the only one?

I have asked this question to many companies, Apani, Nortel etc.... Because I seem to never find anyone else that uses RHEL 4 that has to VPN using a SecurID token? Does anyone else here use RHEL 4 or some kind of equivalent (CentOS) that has to use a SecurID token and VPN?

Hello,
I do not, but I have a suggestion about your subject.

Change it...
Your subject should point in the direction of the subject of the post.
if someone did use PKI Tokens, they wouldn't think to post here because the subject isn't related to any specific topic.

Is that better?

I only made the topic and title like that because I have started this thread before under a title like "RHEL VPN help" and gotten like 10 views in 10 days. For a place that has like 60+ people logged in simultaneously I thought that was bad. But then again a topic like "What distro rocks" will get like 85083 views and 7865 posts. I am sorry if I did not stick to the proper format, I just get so tired of 85 people replying to topics that are not really help related and leaving actual questions blank or not even reading them.

Maybe if you told us the problem - be specific - you'd get a few more views and answers.

The problem is that there is no software that can be used with Nortel and Cisco VPN concentrators that works with RHEL, CentOS etc... I was simply asking if anyone here, had found a work around or a piece of software that works with VPNs. My company pays for the Apani VPN client which works with Linux, just older versions. It stops at FC2.

Here was my first thread about it, which I got an answer, but the official "Nortel" client is actually the Apani client. (very funny to me)
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...light=RHEL+VPN

I spoke with Nortel, and they said that Apani should work for RHEL, but Apani says no that it does not (very adimate about that) and that Nortel was mistaken.

I am very frustrated with this, VPN is very essential to enterprise level technical computing, and there is no VPN software availible for the only distro on the common operating system list, only for ones that are not on the list like Ubuntu, Gentoo, and Fedora. I have looked into FreeSwan and OpenSwan, but they do not work with SecurID tokens. If anyone has any ideas or has dealt with this before please any advice would be helpful. I am doing all of my server administration through Putty on XP right now because I have to VPN.

Cisco's VPN client also works in Linux - or at least there is a linux version of the Cisco VPN client. The Apani site do seem to have a client for Linux - http://www.apani.com/vpnclients.html and the info page states:
Quote:
System Requirements

* Linux for Intel x86 or equivalent processors (32-bit)
* Distributions: Red Hat 8.0-9.0, Advanced Server 3.0, SuSE 8.2-9.1,
Fedora Core 1 and Core 2
* 30 MB of free disk space
* 128 MB RAM
* Ethernet card or dialup modem
* gcc 2.9.x or 3.x
* Kernel-source 2.2.x, 2.4.x , 2.6
* CD-ROM Drive
* A web browser (Netscape and Internet Explorer supported)
and

The Apani Networks VPN Client supports popular authentication technologies such as SecurID and RADIUS.

Ok once again, I am using RHEL 4. I actually talked to a rep about it and the 2.6 kernel support is only for specific versions. RHEL 4 does not use those versions. I have talked with two Apani people (sales) and (tech) and both have told me it does not work with RHEL 4!

I had FC2 before, using Apani fine but once we had to switch to a "supportable" enterprise Linux solution, now we have no VPN.

I appreciate the community, but this is why I am getting frustrated. I think I am "the only one" using RHEL + Nortel VPN + RSA SecurID tokens. Because no mater where I am at everyone says use Apani or Swan even when I say I have tried those. I have tried those, recompiled those, edited source on those, talked to tech support etc.... It does not work, back to original question does anyone have a working VPN of this type?

Where is the Gentoo version of a VPN client that works with the secureID token and nortel/apani vpn? The reason i ask is i recently switched from fedora (and was frustrated with apani's "support" for the vpn client as you've noted allready) to gentoo ont he suggestion of a good friend and havent yet looked back. Yet i havent yet found a client for gentoo, if you know of one, could you share the location?
