All Hail! I have a solution! [canon printer drivers]

I just spent quality time on the phone with a Canon tech support guy.

IF you have a canon printer (or would like to prentend you do) CALL THEM!!

* Toll-free live technical support** Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 midnight ET, Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. (excluding holidays) at 1-800-828-4040
* The location of the ASF nearest you for carry-in service at 1-800-828-4040
* Toll-free TDD Support Line for the Hearing Impaired Monday - Saturday (excluding holidays) at 1-866-251-3752
* Technical Support for Customers in Canada at 1-800-OK-CANON

These numbers are taken directly from their site. It's a lot better to call and speak to a body than to shoot an email and get thrown into the junk mail folder.

Make sure they know that you NEED Linux support, and that if they have OS X support, Linux isn't that far off.

Reiterate (because they don't usually understand what you mean) that they're losing a great deal of business to HP and other companies that have Linux support.

Ask them why they choose not to support Linux.

The more people that call, the more we can do to at least get SOMETHING from them besides that stupid Turbo Print program (which the tech guy didn't even know about, and sounded a bit upset that they put a big logo on it if you don't want to pay an extra $25)....

Call them!

Please!!

Charlene

I've never had a problem using canon printers with linux. albeit older canon printers. even a canon s60 over a network.

call if you have a valid comment to make- but remember the poor souls who REALLY need tech support ("it only prints half a page and then fzzzt!" - don't yank out the paper before it's done) for whom you are plugging up the line.

More simple solution: don't buy Canon product, and say to all our friends to don't buy Canon products!
