I am trying to make a deb-file from a rpm-file for a friend.
As user Suse 11.0.42 KDE 3.5.9-77 Kernel 2.6.26-14 I use alien and in order to preserve the original file so I use -k:
# alien -k xxxx.noarch.rpm (example)
Package build failed. Here's the log:

dh_installdirs: dpkg-architecture failed
make: *** [binary-arch] Fout 1
It is strange that - whereas I also have the last version deb with the last version of alien, together with dpkg, dpkg-dev and deb-helper - this is not working at all. Even Google and of course Debian indicates to these kind of files.
Is it perhaps not possible to make a deb from a rpm (I already made a rpm from a deb, I succeeded), but on the other, perhaps something is wrong.
Who is able to advice me properly, thanks anyway.

u may need root privs to do that with sudo if on suse u can or install if you can fakeroot and put fakeroot infront of the alien command try again..
