I'm trying to add a local source to rpmdrake, by specifying a directory where I'm putting rpms. I've configured it through the Control Centre 'Source Manager' utility, but this source doesn't show up at all in the 'add software' utility repository lists.
Do you need a hdlist with these rpms as well, rather than just the stored rpms? If so, how can one be generated?
I've had some success with this. Especially doing KDE updates (I dump them into a directory and do and add enter the directory, save, launch the install packages). So you don't need an hdlist, rpmdrake appears to either make one on its own or store the information in a different style. Also know that if you have Mandrake choices highlighted, it will not show all possible packages. This info applies for 9.0.
Made directory called KDE3.0.4
Added that to the Configure Sources
Ran an Update on the directory
save & quit
went to software packages installation
did find all packages, alphabetical
kde-3.0.4 files come right up (the rpms being in that directory)
now after they are installed they will only show up in the software packages removal section
don't know if that helps anymore or not... but it doesn't have a seperate section to load packages only from X directory, it seems to just clump them together...
might be better suited to post the q on mandrakeforums, im sure someone could slap you an answer (i tried looking but alas it keeps saying my pw is invalid, even after a reset go fig :-)
i think rpmdrake needs one more revision IMHO, i'd like a little better dependency stuff
Just wanted to let you know you are not alone!!! I am brand new to linux and learning everyday. My goal now is to learn to install downloaded files (RPMs, and Tars). I had download a couple of RPMs from Tucows and burned them onto CD-R. I added this CD as a source and named it "test". Lo and behold it showed up in the software package manager and the two files that were on it in fact showed that they were located on "test". Well tonight I had the bright idea of burning off one of the Redhat 9.0 RPM CD images I had download a few weeks ago and trying to add that to the RPMDrake program. I "added" the disc as I had before, but like you the disc did not show up at all in the software manager. I tried dumping some of the RPMs to my HOME directory in a subfolder called RPMs and added that to no avail. And I tried removing everything but the Mandrake disc and starting over, now nothing works, not even my "test" disc!!! I am just about to go nuts!
Just thought I would share in the frustration. 9.2 comes out soon, maybe RPMDrake will behave better for us....
