Adding GRUB after the fact?

I'm running RH9.0 on a Dell Dimension 4550 which came with WinXP pre-installed. During the installation, the program "strongly recommended" I make a boot disk because of GRUB problems with WinXP. Fearful of losing my Windows partition (good indicator of newbie-ness) I forewent installation of GRUB and now boot with a boot disk. This is getting to be a hassle, and now that I know a bit more about what's going on, I was wondering if there's a way to install GRUB now, with everything in place.

Thanks for the advice,
Phil

How do I know if it's set up properly? That is, where can I find out what the various hda partitions are?

Take a look at the /etc/fstab.

Here's my grub.conf file to serve as a guide.

Quote:
# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.
# root (hd0,0)
# kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/hda2
# initrd /initrd-version.img
#boot=/dev/hda
default=0
timeout=5
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

title Red Hat Linux (2.4.21-AthlonXP)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.21-ck1 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi vga=792
initrd /initrd-2.4.21-ck1.img

title Red Hat Linux (2.4.20-18.9)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-18.9 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi
initrd /initrd-2.4.20-18.9.img
