About awk script

hello,
I m using Fedora core 2. There is a facillity called "mutt" for mailbox in linux which shows all the mails datewise . I want to write a script which will delete more older mails and take a backup of recent mails in one file. I m trying it in awk which will search for the particular date . Is anyone having idea about the script.

Thanx

hi,
sample ip is mutt's mails of previous dates. It stores the mails in /var/spool/mail/username file.from which i want to sort the particular datewise mails and took backup in another file. Before that date i want to delete all the mails. So sample output should be in another file with specified date. I want all this in awk.

Thanx
