a little help please

this is my first post and i do not have that much of a Linux understanding so please bear with me.

Now, i am looking for a free Linux distro that can be installed to a hard drive on a laptop, i have not yet attained a laptop as i am having trouble finding a distro that i like the sound of. It would be good if the distro was based for personal use. i have computer knowledge and i have windows experience but i am having a bit of trouble trying to move to Linux.

if someone could find the time to help me it would be appreciated.

absolutely any modern full size distro you like the look of should be fine. if you so wish, i can suggest, largely at random, ubuntu. Snd a better thread title next time would help.
