*sigh* gnome is dead

so i was on firefox (along with gaim) and suddenly my desktop disappeared and i was left with macslow's cairo clock. wtf? so i restarted the computer and i log in and all there is is a friendly desktop with macslow's cairo clock again. whaa? so i log out and log in with failsafe gnome and it works. has anyone here had any experience with this? where are the nautilus settings stored? is there a log file somewhere (i checked /var/log but there was no nautilus log). If there is a way to copy the settings from the failsafe to the regular gnome that would work too. any help is GREATLY appriciated =D

thanks,

Robert

The easiest way to get your desktop back to be honest is to remove/rename the gnome settings directories for your profile. They are:

Code:
~/.gnome
~/.gnome2
~/.gconf
~/.gconf2
Remove/rename as many of these as you have, then log out and log in again and gnome should build you a new session.
